While The Detroit Lions Second Cornerback Position Is Still In Question, Darius Slay Is Still Looking Like One Of The Best Cornerbacks In The NFL.

Darius Slay is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. He certainly played like it in the Detroit Lions preseason game against the New York Giants.

Outside of a potentially touchdown saving play where Darius Slay committed pass interference, Slay played a nearly flawless game. It should be noted that Darius Slay followed the pass interference penalty with some fantastic defense in the endzone and a really nice pass breakup.

With a lot of negativity surrounding the preseason performances from the Detroit Lions defense, Darius slay has been a burning beacon of hope.

If there is one thing that Detroit fans can count on with this defense in 2018, it is that Darius Slay will continue to be among the best in the league and disrupt the opposing teams’ top receivers.

The cornerback spot opposite Darius Slay is still up for grabs and is one of the most intriguing position battles for the Detroit Lions heading into the season. The Lions have plenty of talent at the position, but it doesn’t appear that any one guy has stood out or started to run away with the job.

Nevin Lawson looked sticky in coverage at times across from Darius Slay, but his ball skills still leave a lot to be desired, and I’m not sure that it is an area of his game that is going to significantly improve. He is consistently in good position, but fails to make a play on the ball. It could certainly be worse, but you definitely want more out of your starting cornerback.

Slay ended the game with only a single tackle, but several excellent plays on the football to break up passes. Often times the best cornerbacks show up minimally on the score sheet.
