Holmes and Agnew Love the Detroit Lions Fans
Brad Holmes opened the conference by reflecting on his time spent in the city this year as the Detroit Lions GM during the offseason. “I’ve been around the city interacting with fans really since January,” he began. “People have watched this franchise their whole lives, and it’s been great for us. I’ve enjoyed every minute here in the city of Detroit.”
Holmes expressed gratitude for the warmth and enthusiasm he has encountered from Lions fans, noting how refreshing it has been to witness such passion in the community. “The fans are great,” he stated, highlighting the importance of that connection. “When you’re out at restaurants and get noticed, it’s great to see the fans and engage with them.”
Agnew agrees with Holmes about the Detroit Lions Fans
Ray Agnew also echoed Holmes’s sentiments, emphasizing the distinctive nature of the Detroit fan base. “This is completely different than I’ve ever experienced in my entire life,” Agnew said. “I would put our fan base up against anybody in the league and have full confidence that we are the most passionate.”
Agnew reminisced about advice he received from his uncle, Luther Bradley, who once played for the Lions. He recalled Bradley’s words about the dedication of Lions fans: “This is a fan base that’s about its past. They are passionate about the team, and it’s truly special.”
Both Holmes and Agnew acknowledged the challenges that come with their roles, but they remain optimistic about the future. Holmes admitted to some naivety when he first joined the team, stating, “I was just thinking about the work that we had to do and didn’t fully grasp the depth of the community connection.”
The recognition of this connection has been a pivotal part of their journey. Their commitment to the city of Detroit and understanding of the fans’ history and emotions is evident and will undoubtedly play a role in their decision-making moving forward.
