In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case have our first weekly show since the firing of General Manager Bob Quinn and Coach Matt Patricia. We take a quick look back at their final game against the Houston Texans and also take a brief look ahead to the game against the Chicago Bears. The real meat of the show is spent on the topics around coaching, quarterbacking, and what the issues were that got us to this point. We also touch on a slight positive about a win against the Chicago Bears being possibly the reason Coach Matt Nagy and GM Ryan Pace lose their jobs in a similar way to Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia. Turning a small victory against the Chicago Bears into a significant turning point for their franchise.
Detroit Lions Podcast Looks At Lions Coaching
In our coaching discussions we talk about the pendulum swing between coaches for the Lions. From Jim Schwartz to Jim Caldwell and ending with Matt Patricia. Do we need to swing the pendulum wildly again, or is there a different way the Lions could approach the hiring process? We also talk about the disrespect the players felt from Matt Patricia, who is responsible for it? Could it (and should it) have gone a different way? Interesting discussion here. We spend some time on Matthew Stafford’s future in Detroit as well. We go over some of the things that might affect his decision on whether to stay or not, what his options might be, and how the team may approach it. There are a number of options here, and all will have a significant impact on the team going forward.
Chicago Bears Are The Next Step
Earlier in the season we watched the Atlanta Falcons get a significant bump from the firing of their head coach, Dan Quinn. We speculate on whether the Lions could see a similar result against the Chicago Bears. If so, what would be next for the team. We also discuss how interesting it would be for the Lions do suddenly surge at the end of the season and what it means about our impressions of Bob Quinn. Additionally, there is a good conversation about how the offense performs this week. It could be indicative of a coaching problem, or possibly that our woes could still be in the building or on the field. More data to reveal itself as the Lions face the Chicago Bears this Sunday.
