In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Sandman to provide a therapy session for Lions fans after the stinging loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Lions rushed out to a 14 point lead after an interception off a Danny Shelton tipped pass, grabbed by Darryl Roberts. After that, the New Orleans Saints hung 35 on the Lions before they were able to strike back.
New Orleans Saints Therapy Session
In an all too familiar refrain, Chris and Andy try to apply the soothing salve for Lions fans. There’s not a lot great to look at with this team right now, but (while little consolation) there are a number of teams worse than the Lions this year. On one hand, most predicted the Lions to come out of the first four games 1-3, 2-2 at best. On the other hand, the losses have all had a lingering stench of failure. Matthew Stafford might be playing his worst football since being drafted. He is clearly frustrated with his own performance, and it looks like his body isn’t doing what he *knows* it can do. Under-throwing TJ Hockenson today while pointing him deep was not a Matthew Stafford characteristic. Everyone knows the New Orleans Saints are a good team, and the plan was to try to score with them. This team relies on Matthew Stafford to win, but he was a key part of the strategy against the New Orleans Saints, and he didn’t deliver. Is it time for Lions fans to start thinking about Matthew Stafford and his value in a trade? We discuss that as well.
Detroit Lions Podcast Welcomes The Bye
It’s the bye week for the Detroit Lions, and as frustrated as we were with the early bye this week, it likely comes at a good time for fans. The most difficult part of the season is over, and extra Sunday without the frustration from the Lions is likely healthy for everyone. Unless maybe you are Matt Patricia. Sandman discusses the likelihood of the Lions letting Coach Matt Patricia loose thus ending his first stint as a head coach in the NFL. Chris still thinks it isn’t happening until around November 1, but Sandman makes a great case as to why now is the time.
Conversely, the Lions have a bit of an easier road coming up and could very possibly win 5 of the next 6 games. That throws a wrench in the plans of team “ditch Patricia”. This team is just as likely to have 4 wins as it is to have 9 – predicting results at this point is an exercise in futility. As if it hasn’t already been, 2020 is going to be a wild ride for Lions fans.
