In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, is joined by Jeff ‘the Riz’ Risdon (as he fills in for Case) to break down the latest Detroit Lions Free Agency News, how it might affect the team’s draft, and we take a trip “Around the Division” with the Riz to check in on what our rivals are up to in Free Agency so far.
We start off the conversation by taking a position by talking about some interesting changes that have happened to the team and its coaches, scouts, and other support staff over the last few years (particularly since Bob Quinn joined the organization. This ship’s leaks have been plugged, there’s a ton of disinformation out there, and a lot of insiders are a little more outside than they used to be.
Then it’s time to delve down into the discussion about what has happened in Free Agency for the Detroit Lions so far. Suffice it to say, things continue to move quickly. So quickly, in fact, that the Lions announced the signing of Kenny Wiggins about 2 minutes after we finished recording. We were quick enough to be able to discuss the signings of Devon Kennard, Christian Jones, Frank Gore, DeShawn Shead and Jake Rudock. Of course we talk about Eric Ebron getting cut, Haloti Ngata moving on, and dig in on the Suh speculation. Tons of great info in here.
After seeing the Lions Free Agency moves, their draft strategy starts to become clearer and Jeff and I start to dig in and make predictions about what the Lions might be looking for and where they might be striking to get it in the draft. This story is yet to be written, but every week a little more confusion is cleared away and the picture becomes clearer.
Lastly, The Riz takes us “Around The Division” to discuss what’s been going on with our rivals in Free Agency and helps us understand how we should feel about it. It’s a great segment, as usual.
