In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Case, and Jeff start out by touching on a topic that was discussed at length in the last episode, Taylor Decker’s injury. The potential scenarios and timelines that go along with a torn labrum, as well just where Decker ranked on the Lions in terms of importance and relative value compared to other options at the position.
Switching gears, the guys get into a conversation about Golden Tate inspired by an excellent article written by our own Lucas Walker. Case, once again, gives an impassioned argument for why Tate is one of the most underrated WRs in the NFL, and Chris and Jeff largely agree. The topic of Tate’s recent statements in regards to wanting a new contract are also discussed, and while everyone agrees that a contract is a contract, the particular circumstances that led up to Tate’s signing with the team should also be taken into account, as his situation in Seattle played a large role in limiting his earning potential, and there is some room for understanding his position.
OTAs and over and mini-camp has begun. One of the hottest topics remains to be the depth battles at WR. Jeff gives us a somewhat sobering view and explains why, despite the hype, we are probably in bad shape in terms of receiver depth, at least for 2017.
Jeff also touches on how insane it is not to expect the Lions to re-sign Matthew Stafford this summer. TL;DR, it is insane. It’s just a matter of timing and whether or not Stafford and his agents blink before Derek Carr does.
Case cops to being the “disturbed” fan who ran onto the field at Allen Park on Tuesday, before going off on a clearly unhinged rant about the state of the NBA. ‘Around the Division’ goes on hiatus again this week due to either Case’s insanity, or simply a lack of news. You decide.
