In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Case, and Jeff, a.k.a. “Smooth and Easy”, a.k.a. “The Riz”, Risdon kick off with ‘This Week in Reddit‘ and dig right into the hot topic du jour, Calvin Johnson’s recent comments. We discuss how, despite the national media gone almost exclusively the other way, the fan base has seemed to side in favor of the team. Also how #81 may have done more damage to his own legacy than anything else. We get some reminders of why Ameer Abdullah is still extremely relevant to the team, and if he can stay healthy, why he is poised to make a huge difference in Detroit this season. Also, rejoice, football fans of all stripes, we are half way from the Super Bowl to opening day!
Some potentially significant rule changes were enacted by the NFL this week, and Jeff takes us through the details and how they could affect the Lions. He points out that if the new rule reducing overtime from 15 to 10 minutes was in place last season, the Lions would have missed the playoffs entirely, due to a loss to the Buccaneers. Also of note are changes to IR designations, as you can now return two players off of IR instead of just one during the season, and that preseason roster cuts will now go straight from 90 to 53, with the mid way, 75 man, cut being removed.
Moving on, Jeff has done some significant tape study on the two rookies from Miami, and the verdict is mostly positive. Both Davis and Tabor are players who become easier to like the closer you look. Case also did some tape review and is looking to rile up the fan base with the bold claim that Theo Riddick is overrated. We want to know what you think on the topic, and if anyone can refute his claims.
