The Detroit Lions Draft Jalen Reeves-Maybin At Pick 124 In The 2017 NFL Draft.
Jalen Reeves-Maybin is coming from Tennessee to Detroit as they have added another linebacker to the team. Since starting his sophomore year, Maybin has been starting for the Volunteers. He only played four games in 2016 due to a shoulder injury. Detroit needed some depth at the linebacker position and with the draft class not having too much help, Detroit didn’t want to miss on any more possible starters.
Reeves-Maybin’s Collegiate Accomplishments:
- 2015 Phil Steele Preseason Fourth Team All-SEC
- 2015 Lindy’s Sports Preseason Second Team All-SEC
- 2016 Athlon Sports Preseason First Team All-SEC
- 2016 Lindy’s Sports Preseason Second Team All-SEC
- 2016 The Butkus Preseason Award Watch List
- 2016 Bronko Nagurski Preseason Trophy Watch List
While at Tennesse, Reeves-Maybin finished with 240 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, eight sacks, four pass deflections, four fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and one interception.

Why Did The Lions Draft Jalen Reeves-Maybin?
The linebacker depth on Detroit isn’t too well. Detroit did draft Jarrad Davis on Thursday, so while they did find a starting linebacker, Reeves-Maybin can be a depth linebacker on the team. He could compete for a starting gig if Detroit doesn’t go down the road of Paul Worrilow starting.
Even if he doesn’t start, Reeves-Maybin will still be able to help the team out coming off the bench or in the rotation. He also plays special teams well, so he can help the team on that unit as well if they need it.
