Week Three and Detroit is Limping in, What is Going On?

The Detroit Lions aren’t rushing into Green Bay, they are using a walker. They are seriously banged up coming into week three against the Packers. Detroit has lost two starting players for a period of time, while others are missing practice. The injury bug has hit Detroit early on and it could impact on how the rest of the season plays out. Green Bay is hobbling as well, but has only one starter that has a chance to miss this weeks game. Check out the latest news for the Detroit Lions injury report.

DeAndre Levy Nowhere to be Seen

While everyone who was injured today was seen on the sidelines, watching practice go on, Levy wasn’t spotted. Levy is suffering from a quad injury that held him out of week two against the Titans and could miss the battle at Lambeau Field. The fact he wasn’t seen leaves questions for fans, wondering if since he is a veteran they let him miss practice completely, or if he could have been worked on and the injury is more serious than we expect.

Eric Ebron Missed practice

A shocker on the injury list is Eric Ebron. He missed practice due to a back injury. He did get banged up against Tennessee, but returned. Detroit could just be playing it safe here and you should expect Ebron back on Sunday.

Ziggy Ansah Suffers High Ankle Sprain, Out Indefinitely

Ziggy Ansah suffered a high ankle sprain last week against the Titans and didn’t return. News came out on Monday that Ansah will be out for an undetermined amount of time. This is a huge blow to the team that now looks at Kerry Hyder to step up to the plate, and so far he has done a fine job. Losing Ansah at all is going to affect the defense and losing him for a long period of time certainly isn’t what the team needs right now.

Ameer Abdullah Goes to IR with Foot Surgery

News was released Wednesday that Ameer Abdullah will be out for at least eight weeks on the IR after having surgery on his injured foot. Abdullah was seen in a walking boot after the game and while that didn’t look good, seeing him get put on the IR is even worse. Theo Riddick will now become the starting running back for Detroit, with Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner expecting to get more reps.

Kyle Van Noy and Antwione Williams Miss Practice, Watch On

The linebackers who were hurt last week against the Titans missed practice as well, but were seen unlike Levy. Van Noy has a calf injury, while Williams has a hamstring injury. Detroit needs help at the linebacker position and with these two out, Detroit might have to sign a free agent to help fill the void. Here are some possible replacements.

Tyrunn Walker, Riley Reiff and Wallace Gilberry Are Sidelined

These three players all surprisingly missed practice on Wednesday. Reiff and Walker did get a little roughed up last week, but returned and finished the game. Walker has a calf injury, while Reiff has an ankle injury. Reiff was seen getting his ankle taped up during the game last week, so expect him to be a go for Sunday. Gilberry has an abdomen injury, the origins of which are unknown. If Walker returned last week, expect him to play this Sunday as well. Gilberry on the other hand is someone to watch out for on the run up to Sunday.

Adairius Barnes Limited in Practice, Cole Wick in Full Participation

Cornerback Adairius Barnes was limited in practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury, while Cole Wick returned to full participation. Having Wick back is good for Detroit who cut Andrew Quarless earlier this week and now has Ebron dealing with a back injury, it at least gives Detroit other options at the position right now. Barnes was limited last week and missed the game. While still being limited isn’t the best news, it is better than no practice. Detroit could see him return on Sunday.

Green Bay Injury News

Green Bay is also having some injury troubles on their side. While not as serious as Detroit’s, at least the Lions aren’t alone. Linebackers Clay Matthews and Datone Jones both missed practice Wednesday as Matthews has an ankle and a hamstring injury, and Jones has an undisclosed injury. Defensive tackle Letroy Guion missed practice as well with a knee injury. Safety Morgan Burnett is dealing with a hamstring injury and cornerback Sam Shields is still out with a concussion. All five players are starters on the defense, so losing all of them could be huge for Detroit. Out of them all, Sam Shields would be one to expect to miss this weeks game, the others are going to need to be watched to see if they hit the field when the whistle blows.
